Doodle God : Create Stuff!

I first saw Doodle God on the iPhone (where it’s humongously popular), and then my son showed it to me online - SWEET!

I don’t know what makes this game so engaging, but once you start, you want to keep trying combinations to see what cool thing you make next!

Some combinations don’t really make sense, but others are logically quite clever.

Doodle God requires Flash, so keep that in mind.

The intro sequence alone is cool enough to be worth the price of admission…

You start out with the four, basic categories (Earth, Air, Fire, Water), with one element each, but over time you add new categories and LOTS of new elements!

Successfully creating a new element is a celebratory moment, and you’re rewarded with a cool proverb, quote, or other catch-phrase each time.

Awesome Scratch Built Assault Rifle from Mass Effect (with BETTER Build Photos!)

Recently we did a post on the "Awesome Scratch Built Plasma Rifle from Fallout 3 (with Build Photos!). While Fallout 3 is among my favorite games, here’s a replica weapon from Mass Effect - I’m not as familiar with the game, but the look of the weapon absolutely, stone cold rocks!

Note: This one also has build photos, only they’re much more detailed!

I think part of the reason I like this weapon so much is that I can imagine this being real in the not too distant future.

Here’s the very beginning of the project - a sketch of the rough pieces on uncut wood.

The article provides A LOT of step-by-step build pictures -  enough that, if you have the tools and the skill, you could duplicate the project!

Awesome Scratch Built Plasma Rifle from Fallout 3 (with build photos)!

Um… Well… It’s an Awesome Scratch Built Plasma Rifle from Fallout 3 (with build photos)!

What else can I really say?

Here’s kind of an overview of the awesome scratch built plasma rifle… Oh fine, never mind.

Here’s a close-up of the barrel showing how cool, and glowy, and green, and awesome scratch-built plasma rifle-y it is…

Here’s a random picture of Steve Martin, who’s also awesome, but not scratch-built.
If you’re still interested, there are plenty more pictures of the plasma rifle (including build photos!) after the jump!

Ostendo CDM43 : The first 43″ CURVED computer display with a 32:10 screen ratio!

The CDM43 will certainly be a boon to (very wealthy) gamers, but it would also make an amazing development box, research machine, or solve that problem of really obnoxious Excel screens!

With a native resolution of 2880 x 900 resolution and up to 68.7 billion colors, this monitor will make any gamer geek the envy of all who are blessed to gaze upon it!

Gaming on it - that’s what I’m talking about…

Here’s a comparison of what you would see on a monitor with other, less fortunate screen ratios

At the meager cost of $6499, I’m thinking I’ll pick up three of ‘em!
<hollering> HONEY… YOU KNOW THAT MONITOR I’VE BEEN SAYING I WANT TO PICK UP?

2600 : Halo Devolved

Remember the Atari 2600?

(Yes, I’m aware that some of you know it very well)!

Here’s how Halo might have looked (and played) had it been released a somewhat earlier.

Two things to note:

1) I had to hit the [refresh] button in my browser for the game to start the first time

2) there is a very, VERY DIFFICULT spot in the second (red) area.

Good Luck!

The intro screen - very A2600 looking!

About to grab my first weapon (you can’t shoot until you get it) - this is on beginning "level".

Those seem to be shield things of some sort - they make it difficult (or impossible) to run past some of the enemies without fighting.
Note: I wasn’t able to get screenshots of the enemies without the enemies killing me!

ZPG : YAY!!!

ZPG = Zero Player Game (though really it’s closer to .02-Players).

The premise is that you’re not a hero.

You’re his deity.

You don’t have to do stuff, he does!

You can reward or punish him, or you can just check in and read the updates to his diary, inventory, etc.

And if I didn’t mention, the game is hilarious!

(I’ll accept the first 2 friend requests)!

This is the left 1/3 of the display - the only real important thing here is the health bar - you can affect this with your punish/reward choices.

This is the center section where you’ll spend most of your time. Here you read the hero’s diary, track your Godpower, and store it up in the "batteries" (Note that you see my "Deity Name" here - Jaidex).

Here is the right 1/3 - my hero (Lorkinn) has not joined subscribed to any Pantheons, has some (amusing) equipment, and currently has no friends or messages..

Coma: BEAUTIFUL game, BIZARRE atmosphere!

Coma is probably the most visually beautiful in-browser game I’ve ever seen. The play style is simple and the story is engaging.

Warning, however: the feel is very, very weird (extremely well done, but very weird)! The music and the graphics combine together very nicely to produce an overall effect that’s practically hypnotic.

Don’t try it unless you’re looking for something really different!

"Coma" is very mysterious

This view of a "world [that] is a lie" shows up in the first few rooms you’ll encounter

Other inhabitants include the bird over my shoulder and this young girl playing with a jump-rope (and many others).

The #1 (”REAL”) Fantasy MMO is Java and Browser Based!

I’ve intended to try RuneScape for some time, but I finally got to it for today’s post. I must say, I’m not disappointed (though the flavor of the game is a bit slow for my taste).

RuneScape is written in Java and is free to play with no premium "extras" to pay for.

Because it’s Java based, it runs on any modern platform, and doesn’t have heavy hardware requirements!

I’m not really comfortable with that Orc walking up behind me at THE FREAKING INN - I do think the sheep are cute though!

The game world is quite large, here is a very small portion of one of the maps!

Here’s another building view - this time for a shop. When you leave the buildings, the roof "appears" to cover it.

HUGE (and TIME SENSITIVE) News for Gamers!

Steam has just been released for the Mac (don’t worry, there’s PC news too)!

If that wasn’t big enough, how about this - Portal is ALSO out for Mac, and for BOTH PC AND MAC, it’s FREE until May 24th!

As a final bit of gamer news, Torchlight, which I covered a few weeks back, is 50% ($9.99) off for this weekend for both platforms (via Steam)!

It’s actual freaking STEAM for the Mac! I foresee a day when all gamers will be able to play together in brotherhood, regardless of their platform background!

Portal. 70 Game of the Year awards. Freaking PORTAL. Freaking FREE! (For Mac and PC) (Until May 24).

Torchlight very quickly became one of my all-time favorite games, and now it’s available for the Mac! And it’s only $9.99 for this weekend! A dream come true!

Apple iPad? WHAT limitiations?

I’ve now five of three different methods of running things on your iPad that… Well… Can’t run on an iPad - and that doesn’t count jailbreaking in any way!

This method is provided by Gakai - they basically let people run applications remotely on their servers and then stream the results to their local machine. This picture shows an early prototype of an HTML5 based streaming app that will let you run any PC program on their servers and use it as if it’s running on your iPad locally…

I WANT NOW!!!!
