Free Grunge Blotter Desktops done by Moi

A friend who used to do some cool doodle art has recently started again.

He’s probably surprised by how much I’m reacting to it, but it’s really cool stuff!

Anyway, his re-doodling reminded of a grunge wallpaper I used to like, so I decided to create one.

It turned out so well (and was so much fun) that I did another.

They’re free for the taking!

This first one I did was 1920 x 1440 it’s a little flashier, but a bit less believable than the second one.

This is the second one I did. Click on either of them to be taken to DeviantArt where you can download them.

FANTASTIC Wallpaper Site (plus a few favorite wallpaper choices)!

This is kind of a double post.

I found a great wallpaper I wanted to share, but that didn’t seem like much of a post.

Then I decided to cover the site (Wallpaper Abyss) as well.

After that, I figured that I might as well add a few pointers to some of my favorite wallpapers (so far).

Feel free to let us know if you discover any great finds!

The Wallpaper Abyss is an INCREDIBLE resource for wallpaper images with a LOT of other uses!

They provide a TON of ways to search for images…

Even if you just use it as a free art site or an "inspiration" site, they have an incredible array of styles (and provide all images in whatever resolution you want, including custom-as-you-specify)!

This awesome wallpaper is my favorite so far, and is, in fact, the wallpaper I have set on my main Mac monitor.

It was a tough call for first place, but this one ended on my external monitor…

For this final one, I decided on this one from the ABSTRACT>PATTERNS category, though again, it was a tough call!

Anybody need Ten Thousand Bucks?

Apple is about to give $10,000 to whoever downloads the 25 billionth app from the app store.

That’s about double the number of downloads in one year!

I did some rough calculations and it looks like the magic app download will occur on Wednesday, 29 Feb.

Realistically, I expect the day before because people will probably race for the final app.

You can check the countdown HERE.

Good Luck #25,000,000,000!

This is the countdown as of 3:00 today (Feb 18, 2012). Based on timing 100,000,000 downloads (which showed 689.65 apps/second), that puts us at completion of around 11:00 on Wed. the 29th, but I think the timing will accelerate as the magic number gets closer.

You can also enter HERE without a purchase (up to 25 times/day).

How can something with a name like that, look like this?

Have you ever seen a wombat?

They’re adorable!

Now admittedly, the twins shown here are recently-discovered, rare, albinos, which certainly adds to the cuteness factor, but still, how can you call something that looks like a bunny-piglet hideous name like "wombat"?

Henceforth, "wombat" is a much cuter word in my mind.

Maybe I can find a way to use that as my rapper name…

See what I mean? Totally a piglet. This is straight-out-of-Charlotte’s-Web-level cuteness!
(and yes, cuteness overload to the contrary, I’m still a guy)

And here’s bunny-view mode…

Now, to be fair, this outtake from the same picture as "bunny-mode" above shows the sibling wombat looking like a meth-freaked capybara, but he was just having a bad hare (sic) and (sick) day.

Finally, a new game for the Atari 2600!

Yes, there really is a new game coming out in "early 2012" for the venerable Atari 2600 video game system.

Actually, new games aren’t really uncommon on the forums, but this one was recently featured on Retro Thing, so I owed them the link!

This particular game is a sequel to the massively popular A2600 game from the 70’s, Adventure!

I now present, Epic Adventure for the A2600!

This is the "legend" of the game characters (this was a common thing back in the day)!

One of the, presumably early, game screens - it’s very reminiscent of the original Adventure!

And here is the requisite picture of the inevitable (for those who knew the original game) maze scene!

TOScripts (Star Trek:TOS Transcripts)

How awesome is this?

Transcripts of every show from Star Trek, The Original Series!

That’s all three seasons, PLUS the animated series!

I found these while verifying that I correctly remembered Spock’s comment to Bones just after he went blind in "Operation: Annhilate!" (The quote was "An equitable trade…", and yes, I had remembered it correctly).

Now I want to watch the shows again…

This shows only season one (though all three seasons AND the animated series are covered). It shows the title, production order, and original air date. Click on the title and you will be taken to the transcript.

Here’s an out-take from Space Seed (the episode where Khan first appeared) to give you an idea of what the transcripts look like.

Happy Birthday World Wide Web (and also my wife!).

Yes, today (Aug 6, 2011) is my wife’s birthday (Happy Birthday, Honey!), but it’s also the 20th anniversary of the very first web page ever made (by the "creator" of the web, Tim Berners Lee).

If anyone ever asks, the web started on Aug. 6, 1991.

Happy Birthday, WWW!

A screenshot of the web on the day it was born! Isn’t it cute?!?

OddMall : A New (And Odd) Ohio Tradition!

OddMall is basically a craft show / flea market for the strange, weird, or odd.

It’s a Bizarre Bazaar!

It’s staged and organized by Artist Andy Hopp (who also runs the local "Con on the Cob" gaming convention).

If you can get to the Hudson, Ohio area at the right time, it’s definitely worth the trip!

These customized monster/demon dolls are amongst the more ODD things to see at OddMall - and the most interesting!

The main entryway normally has live entertainment, this time it included belly dancers!

The plushy monsters from The Goblin Toybox are always fun to check out, and the girl who runs the booth is always friendly!

If plushy monsters aren’t your thing, perhaps you’d care for some plushy food? Besides the awesome sushi shown here, I’ve seen all manner of toast, pastries, fruits, sandwiches, etc. Something for every taste!

Mike Rivamonte and… MORE JUNKBOTS!!!

If there’s one art genre I dig as much as steampunk, it’s retro-future, as shown here!

Some of these are amazing, but I think they were bigger projects than the previous junkbots I reviewed.

Whenever I see these things done well, I feel like trying  it myself - really just to have the cool pieces standing around my workroom.

I need more hobbies, right?

This is Old Blue. He’s 28 inches tall and has a light-up jet pack! WANT!

This awsome guy is Red Lightening. He’s 24 inches tall, uses an Australian Drive-In speaker for his body, and also has a light up jetpack. WANT MORE!

While not one of the robots, this piece was just too cool not to show! It stands 38 Inches tall and is made from parts of a radio and a clarinet! AWESOME!

Gamers LOVE 3d Technology (for Dice)!

If you’re looking for a really unusual set of gaming dice, take a look at the offerings at Shapeways!

Shapeways is an online company that will 3D print pretty much anything you want, and they carry an extensive online store of things that people have designed and will sell you at a mark-up from the production costs.

The dice shown here are all from the first page (of 12 pages) of dice listings!

This is a good example of the unusual kinds of things you’ll find at the jump. You could order a set of these from several colors of plastic or seven types of metal.

I think this is my favorite of the ones I’ve looked at - you may have noticed I have a thing for steam punk! This D20 would cost you from $13.78 for a Black Plastic one up to $123.41 for a Glossy Silver one.

This totally cool D6 might be an example of one that would only look good in Silver Glossy!
