Zero words for a while…

Do to a sudden change beyond our control, this site will not be updated for some time, possibly as much as a month. We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to returning to normal!

Like HDR Images?

If so, you’re gonna LOVE this site!

I really like HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography (and can’t wait to get a camera that makes it easy to do!). This is the first time I’ve seen a site that caters specifically to it.

The site allows people to upload their HDR images and vote on the ones others have uploaded (using 0-5 stars). Some of the images are absolutely gorgeaous!

HDRCreme - I Love the site, hate the name!

HDR1
This Budapest image is one of my favorites artistically, but I just can’t help think about how great it would be as a Warhammer 40K model!

HDR2
This image shows a pretty standard “trick” in HDR - the visible dynamic range of those clouds would be impossible without HDR or or distorting the rest of the image

HDR3
This is another standard “trick” in HDR (though not as common) - HDR can give a very spooky feel to lonley looking images!

(Again, I love the site but hate the name!)

Sometimes you just gotta blow stuff up!

I’m not much into arcade-style shoot-em-ups (there was a time!), and I have to admit I’m a little out of that loop.

That said, I just tried out AirShark2 and it blew me away (pun fully intended)!

There’s not a lot of story here, you basically just blow up the bad guys, but there is a lot of excitement! The 3d graphics are amazing, the mouse control is incredible, and there are more cool weapons than you can shake a cruise missile at!

AirShark2
One of the early missions with the original helicopter (you earn new ones every 5 or 6 levels)

AirShark2B
This “mission” is a little later on - you’re protecting the carrier from incoming attacks

AirSharkC
This mission is in an unknown quadrant… Apparently one that’s geologically very active!

Alienware Monitor for GAMERS!

This awesome gaming monitor, not due for release until late this year (2008) provides a very nice resolution (2880 x 900), a partial wrap-around effect that must be just awesome when gaming in the dark (which is how I usually game), and a fairly small footprint.

PlotShot - Randomly Generated Illustrated Stories…

I always like web apps that use Flickr tags for illustration. Eventually someone will come up with a really cool way to use this ability.

While I don’t think PlotShot is the sought after killer app, it still has some pretty cool vibes.

PlotShot generates random stories of around fifty words, and adds illustrations by grabbing key words in Flickr (see image).

The stories won’t win any awards, but for the writers out there, it could help kick off a basic plot idea!

A new reference source

Everybody loves Wikipedia, right? Without it, the web just wouldn’t be the same for some people!

Well, what if you have a really, really specific question, possibly even too specific for Wikipedia?

Oh, and also the question is about Whiskey.

For example, don’t know much about Hooch? How about Ferintosh? Maybe you’re curious about the Prohibition?

Then you’ve got the WhiskyPedia! The ultimate online reference for all things whiskey!

Live WWI letters posted on original schedule!

Harry Lamin was a soldier in World War I. Like most soldiers, he sent letters home from training and the front lines regularly.

The WWI Blog is posting Harry Lamin’s letters on the 90th anniversary of their writing. He wrote a couple of (reasonably short) letters a week.

The blog also has scans of some of the original letters, photos, and commentary.

This blog certainly brings the whole experience to life!

This is a card that Harry sent to someone unidentified back home. It commemorates the actions of Harry’s division in a well-known battle in Flanders
