Okay, it was a corny title - so shoot me (online only please! I have a family to feed!).

Which, in an award deserving seque brings me to - Online gaming.

Can’t spend the bucks on the latest FPS? Or maybe you don’t like the competitive games because you suck at ‘em? (Don’t worry, me too - until now!).

Quake Live lets you learn in single player and then compete in multiplayer - all with top notch graphics, all in your browser, and all free!

You always have the option of bot-play so you’re really the only one
playing. You can choose between the Training version (top) where you
can practice all of the special moves everyone always talks about, or
the simulated live game version where you can set the specifics.

This is a screenshot of me getting ready to kill two bots from the
other team - it really does feel like multiplayer with the bots jumping
around like madmen. Why am I playing bots? Well, did I mention that
I sucked?

When you ARE ready to compete, there are a LOT of open games -
Notice the tiny little drag-bar on the “Open Games” list!

Automotivator is a web-app that lets you quickly and easily create those motivational (or anti-motivational) posters that are being used by corporate offices all over the place.

It’s pretty easy, and the results are great. Just select a picture, type in your text, and submit - you’re handed back the finished version to save or upload to your favorite photo-site.

You can use the sample pictures, or choose your own from the web or your local machine

It takes about 3 seconds to make one from the time you arrive at the page to the finished image!

I’ve been thinking lately about how rare it is to find a truly innovative computer game. The new games will add a twist, or sometimes just change a plotline, but too often it seems to be just about eye candy.

Paper Moon is a platformer that flies in the face of that trend. It has really neat (but simple) paper graphcs, a very interesting “pop” mechanic, and an unusual theme, making it a pretty intriguing prospect… Plus, it’s free!

These graphics won’t compete with something like DemiGod head-on,
but they certainly do have an appeal of their own! The static image
(even when you click for the larger version) doesn’t do the animation
effect justice, you just HAVE to try it!)

Again, it’s startling how much less the static graphics are than the live scenes.
What a great game!

Here I’m steathily hopping across hovering wooden platforms to
avoid the hungry crab-things below (the darker boards have to
be “popped” to the front between jumps).

And here’s a close-up for those 97.3 % of you that are two lazy to
click on the other pictures!

This is a regular car, and no, it’s not PhotoShopped. A student at a British art school meticulously painted it to match the surroundings exactly. This would obviously appear less effective from other angles, but in the article, the creator of the illusion says that people have almost walked into it when not paying attention!

I’ve long thought of doing something like this (well, never specifically a car, but, you know, THINGS), but like many ideas, I’ve never got around to it! Huray for industrious art people!

I think this car used to be owned by Wonder Woman before she started flying…

From this list of thirteen completely different, there are only a couple that I’m not sold on just by description and picture! Now, a few of these… Er… QUITE a few of these (okay, ALL of these) are a bit too much of a workout for my wallet, but hey, I can dream, right?
