The #1 (”REAL”) Fantasy MMO is Java and Browser Based!

I’ve intended to try RuneScape for some time, but I finally got to it for today’s post. I must say, I’m not disappointed (though the flavor of the game is a bit slow for my taste).

RuneScape is written in Java and is free to play with no premium "extras" to pay for.

Because it’s Java based, it runs on any modern platform, and doesn’t have heavy hardware requirements!

I’m not really comfortable with that Orc walking up behind me at THE FREAKING INN - I do think the sheep are cute though!

The game world is quite large, here is a very small portion of one of the maps!

Here’s another building view - this time for a shop. When you leave the buildings, the roof "appears" to cover it.

Super Powers by the numbers… Er… Letters!

The Periodic Table of Super-Powers is based on the Table of Elements (of course), but has some very cool properties (if you will).

The chart itself is cool enough (see picture below) (larger version), but the neat thing is that you can use it to describe a super-being’s (or group’s) abilities symbolically!

For example, Superman is OAFSISpVxVhSn and Poison Ivy is, appropriately, Iv.

Nano-spiders that walk a DNA trail…

More precisely, it’s an RNA trail, but let’s not split strands, shall we? (Sorry, I couldn’t resist).

The linked article discusses "real" nano-bots - actual functioning "machines" that exist at a molecular scale; in this case, approximately 4 nanometers wide - (about 1/2000 the diameter of a human red blood cell), and they actually use a DNA/RNA strand as their "track"!

This is nothing like the appearance of the nano-bots discussed in the article, but apparently the publishers thought it was a cool picture anyway.

This is what the nanobot actually looks like (left) - this is a scanning electron micrograph of the actual nanobot!

BOTFEST!!!!!

I’m not sure how many of you have been interested in the various printable models we’ve featured here in the past (since I’ve had very, very little feedback, <hint><hint>, but here’s a series of fifty downloadable / printable / buildable robots, from the extremely impressive Gundam robot to the questionable (but still cool) Godzillabot.

Have at it and (for once), show us what you’ve got!

I’m not sure what this ‘bot is from (he looks a bit like Wall-E, but only a bit). Still, he looks pretty cool, especially for a paper ‘bot!

Here we have the (apparently transforming White House along with the president to form the complete) ObamaBot!

This, in my opinion, is one of the visually more impressive options (though not the most so). He comes with two other heads - a standard Arnold head, and a B-B-B-Bad-To-The-Bone-Sunglasses-Wearing-Arnold head!).

Bill Murray - I don’t think I NEED any more title than that!

An internet legend tells of Bill Murray meeting someone in an empty street, playing some prank, saying "No one’s ever going to believe you!" and leaving without a trace.

Another says it’s impossible to see Bill Murray without saying "It’s Bill  F***KING  Murray!" (Use an expletive of your choice)

Well, these ghostbuster’s geeks have proof, and a story to retell for the rest of their lives!

"You have to believe us now!"
"Dude, that’s totally ’shopped."

The man, the commedian, the legend - It’s Bill F***king Murray!

WTF-OTRTP: The Mongolian Death Phone?

WTF-OTRTP  =  "WTF?… Of The Random Time Period"

I was doing some research on the Cryptozoological creature, the Mongolian Death Worm, and I came across this:

So I had to ask "Why?"

Why does the word "Worm" (Especially in this context) link to a BlackBerry Pearl ad? What are they trying to convey?

If anyone has any idea, please enlighten me!

Spotlight: Artist Ben Heine’s COOL work!

This is one of those ideas that you wonder "Why didn’t I think of that?", but know you probably wouldn’t pull of as well anyway.

The artist takes a photograph and replaces part of it with a drawing to change its "meaning". It doesn’t sound that cool, but check out the pics below!

If you really like any of the pieces, they’re available for free download in various sizes at the original photo stream.

Some of the pieces make me really want to know what’s behind the paper!

Most of the pieces are "serious", but some, not so much.

This is more of a drawing over a doodle, but he plays with the original concept in a few different ways.

HOW in the WORLD…? Still, they’re AWESOME!

To begin with, the designs shown below (with more pictures after the jump) look stunning enough as ceramic works. Then the reality hits - they’re not ceramic, they’re actually carved out of brick and mortar!

I don’t know what "industrial process" they’re using for this, but I’d really like to find out! This is AWESOME!

This was the first piece I saw - the one that "wowed" me. You can NOT do this with conventional power tools!

Here’s a close-up of the same item - they  obviously do some buffing and polishing after the base crafting is complete.

This picture shows the other two pieces in the series; a display tray and vase.
