Cool Tech of Yesteryear… Er… Yestercentury… Um… Yesterlenium?

IPad? Pshh!

Windows 7? <snort>.

Droid X? Shyeah! As if!

Oh sure, we have some reasonably cool toys NOW, but look at these marvels from the ’70’s!

Cool (Free) Digital Clay Modeling App

Sculptris,  (Windows only) allows you to work in a natural, clay like environment. It’s free of charge (donations accepted), and easy to use.

I played with it for maybe half an hour, but I can see doing some cool stuff with it!

Note that didn’t have a lot of luck with the painting functionality.

Even if you’re not big in the 3D thing, this app is fun to play with!

Here’s a shot of my quick cow-thing. There are a few starter objects that come with the install as well, and you can import from other apps!

Here’s a close-up shot of Cow-Thing changed to a ceramic-like material - note, this is NOT the paint portion that I had trouble with.

Here’s another show of Cow-Thing, this time showing off the cool mirrored texture.

And finally, a piece from the site’s gallery that was done by somebody who, presumably, spent more time than I did (and certainly had more skill!)

Sweet use of NanoTech!

Again, SICA (Sorry, I Couldn’t Resist).

An MIT group has found a way to use carbon nanotubes to measure blood glucose levels in diabetics - this would preclude the need for the often lamented finger prick that is currently necessary in most treatment.

The nanotube based "tatoo" would last about six months before needing to be "refreshed".

What!? It’s a sugar molecule - it’s directly from the article!

POTRTP: Oh the Irony…

POTRTP: Picture Of The Random Time Period

Enjoy!

This is a case of the oil calling the kettle "black".

Problem with 86Words

Readers,

We apologize for the recent lack of service, our servers are currently not allowing our images to upload. Please stand by while we try to figure this out. Hopefully we’ll be back in business in the next few days.

(I have GOT to get 86Words moved to a better server environment! Any suggestions?)
