What happened in 1893?

Ever wonder what hapened on a particular date in history (like your birthday)? How about a particular year (”I know that year was important, I just can’t remember why!”)?

There are a lot of sites out there to help with that (even WikiPedia to a degree), but I found the wonderfully named Spiritus Temporis to be both easy to use and fairly comprehensive.

Pick a year in history and give it a shot - you might be surprised what you learn!

Image
The site’s a little ad-heavy, but they’re reasonably well targeted to your search (Google!).

Image
The date search allows you to specify whichever information you want and leave the rest blank

Image
I searched on the year 1893 and found that my favorite symphonics piece premiered that year!
(to avoid sound overly snobish, I’ll admit that I can only name like 5 pieces of symphonic music, but still…)

Bloxor - an online, rolly steel blocky thing puzzle game

Bloxor was, at the time of it’s creation, a one-of-a-kind sort of game. The idea is to roll the little cube(ish) thing around and get it to slide, satisfyingly, down into the little square hole.

It sounds simple (and sometimes it can be), but it’s also insidiously misleading.

This is one of those “you have to try it to “get” it.

So do that (try it, I mean).

Image
This is the start of one of the aforementioned “insidiously misleading” levels.

Image
Same level, I’m about to finish, I just have to stand up the block in the whole and I’m done!
(Ignore that 367 Moves thing, that HAS to be a mistake, doesn’t it?)

Image
And of course there are a plethora of cool little wrenches to throw in the works - this one is a teleporter!

POTRTP: Not gonna happen…

You remember that favor you asked me for? Yeah, I don’t think so.

At least you’ll know how to maintain a healthy, well-balanced diet!

Oh sure, let’s just add PHYSICS and make it HARDER!

99Bricks is very distantly a “Tetris-Like” game that’s a little different. The blocks follow real world physics and the goal is to stack them as high as possible.

This is significantly more difficult than you might imagine. The blocks slide around, roll off, shift under the weight of new blocks, etc.

You get a trophy icon if you can manage a tower or 350, but I never even made 300!

What, you think you can do better? Just TRY it, buddy!

Image
Here I am in mid-topple. The game doesn’t end here, of course, I still have 38 Bricks to stack!

This is too big for a cutesy title…

The image below shows the current, state of the art technology in TAHs (Total Artificial Heart)s. While it’s only been used so far in 7 patients, 6 of who didn’t survive long enough to leave the hospital, the reasons for the failure were NOT failure of the device, they were primarily failure of the body to accept it. This may sound like word games, but the difference is that the researchers know how to fix the latter problem. We’re well on our way to a truly man-made, replacement heart (and let’s not forget the 7th patient who has lived with the heart for over a year and leads a fairly normal life).

So, anybody know any Nausicans who really need to be messed with?

(Hey, I can only resist so much!)

The AbioCor TAH is currently in the early stages of an FDA
sponsored
feasibility study and is probably a few years from
approval as a valid, natural heart replacement.

Tin Eye reverse image search

On the night of October 20th, a strange pinkish-purple cloud (as seen in the picture below) appeared over London for just over an hour starting at around 8:30 London time. People proposed a lot of strange theories as to what could cause the phenomena, but the final “official” story was that it was a “low altitude cloud reflecting light from the city”.

Does this sound like a cover-up of some kind to anyone besides me? I’m not saying it was aliens or mega-psychics, but maybe a gas leak of some sort that somebody didn’t want to admit to?

Who knows, really, but it sounds an aweful lot like the excuse that “J” made in “Men In Black” to explain the bug’s space ship…

I’m just sayin’.

Someone Finally Did It! They Made A Chrome Car!!!!

I don’t know about everyone, but I’d say that at least most of us have imagined how cool it would be to have a sweet lookin’ ride that was completely covered in beautiful, shiny, reflective chrome!

Stainless Steel? Yeah, DeLoreans are cool, but they’re not chrome! I want to have people in every direction around me completely blinded by the sun reflecting off of my awesome car.

Ah… I remember those dreams…

Ah look at the beauty… James Bond would be proud!
